METS in PREMIS Toolbox (Sean)

a. Scope is important. There are three different functions in the toolbox:
    * PREMIS-in-METS (PiM) XML validation service. This is useful to enforce good practice not otherwise controlled by the METS schema. Bertrand offered to transcribe requirements based on his experience with Schematron. The underlying validation rules in the stylesheet are a key area for contributions from the METS Board.
    * PREMIS to PiM/PiM to PREMIS conversion service. It is not clear how people use this or whether a stand-alone tool is needed. Sean may contact Florida for more information.
    * Digital object description service. There are concerns about the service, due to the limitation on the size of (content) files (<50MB) to upload. It uses an old version of JHOVE and could benefit from recent OPF improvements. FITS could be incorporated to pick up more format-specific technical metadata. Pronom data file version is also desired. Sean will write up what he would like to see. PREMIS Board members plan to talk about which tools to incorporate into description service.
b. Juha (in Finland, they use METS with PREMIS and other MD formats and have catalog of… ?) Different kinds of organizations with different needs, created SIP generator tool, presentation coming up at iPres. Each section in METS is divided into different modules, then the output is combined. Code is publicly available in github; will send more information.
c. Robin didn’t follow this discussion-- Bertrand: Schematron is used to mention errors and warnings. XML schema 1.1 (what’s the relationship? Marriage of XSL and Schematron?)
d. Offer opportunity for community to donate sample files (METS or content)
e. METS Board will endorse and support the METS in PREMIS Toolbox work and at a minimum will contribute to the validation service.

ArchivesSpace Export report (discussion deferred)

* Some ID validation issues
* Recommend removing file level MODS records

Kyoto planning

a. We have space for our meeting Monday + Tuesday.
b. Juha, Karin, Bertrand plan to attend. Brian, Aaron, and Robin may attend. Tom, Betsy, and Sean will be unable to attend.
c. The agenda for Kyoto will be discussed during the August METS Board call.
d. It might be useful to pull PREMIS and METS Board members together informally.

METS requests

a. Ticket 22: Electronic Archive of Gallician Heritage requested entry in the METS Registry and formal profile registration. Tom will follow up with them on validating the profiles, putting on METS list for comment, and will follow up with Glenn to register it on LC site.
b. Ticket 21: Apex has a commercial METS tool they want registered. Tom will ask Glenn to register.
