Members Present

Sean, Tom, Aaron, Betsy, Karin, Robin, Juha, Brian, Leah, Richard, Bertrand, Andreas, Brian, Jukka

Membership News

Three new members were welcomed to the Board:

• Sean Mosely - Digital Preservation Technical Specialist, National Library of New Zealand
• Aaron Elkiss - Systems Programmer/Analyst Senior, University of Michigan Library IT (HathiTrust)
• Juha Lehtonen- Digital Preservation Specialist, CSC – IT Center for Science, Finland

The new members were asked to introduce themselves and describe their objective for wanting to join the Board.

Sadly, it was also announced that longtime member Terry Reese is leaving the Board.

Planning for Next Face-to-Face Meeting

It was decided that the Board would not be prepared for a new public workshop as part of the face-to-face meeting, but instead would hold just a normal Board Meeting. Betsy provided a spreadsheet describing possible venues: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Xa6sK7eoDppNSy4Gkbin1clym52oQ0qbD_Rvitdtqks/edit#gid=0

After some discussion, several of the options were removed from contention. Board members were asked to rank the remaining choices in order of their preferences. After the meeting everyone had a chance to rank their choices, the winner was the iPRES conference being held in Kyoto, Japan, September 25 - 29.

Overview of METS 2 Efforts of Past Few Years

Mostly for the benefit of the new members, but also in order to refocus the efforts of the Board, an overview and discussion of the Board's past efforts toward rethinking the METS standard was held. The discussion included a recap of the major ideas that have been explored, such as a new linked-data, RDF-focused version of METS, an XML Schema METS-lite version, aligning METS more closely with allied standards such as PREMIS, OAI-ORE, or the PCDM efforts.
