Why have a town?

  • Mobs, by default, do not spawn in town plots. This includes phantoms. Mobs can, however, still enter town plots. As well, mobs can be nametagged if you do not want them to despawn.
  • PvP is, by default, disabled in town plots.
  • Blocks may only be broken by members of the town with the Builder role, and never by outsiders.
  • Chests and doors in town plots are protected from outsiders.
  • All blocks are protected from explosions, by default.
  • You gain the ability to teleport to your town.
  • You unlock town chat, which is a special chat channel just for you and your townies.

Why own land in a town?

  • You can break and place blocks on your property.
  • Only you and your friends can open your doors and chests.

Why start or join a nation?

  • Towns that are in nations have two additional outpost slots.
  • Every wilderness plot bordering a town plot is automatically protected.
  • Gives access to diplomacy.
  • You unlock nation chat, which is a special chat channel just for you and your compatiots.

Things that are not protected in towns:

  • Leads, boats, and empty minecarts are not protected. This is so that players can realistically use animals, boats, and minecarts as modes of transport to and from town. If you don't want your horse to be stolen, don't use a lead for long-term storage: build a proper stable.
  • Pressure plates, levers, and buttons may be used by anyone. You can use these to make doors public.
  • Trapped chests may be opened by anyone. Use these to make world-accessible chests.
