Settlers MC
Settlers MC was the server that came before SettleScape. It had two admins, AtomicLemons (the owner) and MilesBHuff. It began in June 2019 from a mutual desire between Lemons and Miles to start playing Minecraft again; it ended in August 2019 over drama.
Lemons had tried in the past to get Miles to start playing Minecraft again, but Miles never felt he had the time. Around mid-2019, however, this changed, and Miles reached out to Lemons on Facebook to see if he was still interested in running a server. Lemons was, so the two got to work. Miles put together a server icon (the one still used today), and Lemons put together the server, using what he had learned as the admin of Silver Skylines in 2014.
AtomicLemons was the first player on the server, followed soon after by MilesBHuff (it is unknown whether Lemons' alt, FRICKMYFRICKER, joined before or after Miles). Upon joining, Miles immediately set to building the server's spawn, which took about 6 hours and has remained relatively unchanged to this day. It was the first structure Miles had built in Minecraft in nearly half a decade. During the construction of spawn, Lemons worked on server configs and playtesting -- the latter of which Miles assisted with post-construction (specifically, testing and configuring the ShopChest plugin from the Resource World Tyler had added).
After Tyler logged out, Miles sailed out in each of the four directions to see what land laid in each. He found what would eventually become Delta, and marked it with a large glowstone cross, before leaving to explore the other directions. For a time, there were signs at spawn saying what lay in each direction; these were later taken down.
Much of the server's core gameplay was decided in discussions on Discord between Lemons, Hoagie Man, and Miles; with Middie joining in a little later. Things like the names and colors of ranks have been the same since the Discord Accords. In these accords, Hoagie Man was made head moderator, and Middie junior moderator.
The third person on the server, Middie321, was invited by Miles, and joined soon after the creation of the server. There was some initial uneasiness between him an Lemons, but with Miles's mediation they agreed to bury the hatchet over the Minecrack drama of 2013. Miles and Middie pooled their funds together to found the server's first town, Delta, within a week or so of the server coming into existence. Middie initially took the Explorer job, and gained an inordinate amount of money before the job was nerfed in July. He held the record for furthest distance travelled North and South for all of Settlers MC.
There were a number of issues with the early-mid server, most of which revolved around plugins not yet supporting 1.14.X, and bugs in vanilla Minecraft. These were resolved by about mid-July.
The server was always intended as a server for friends, although Lemons was not opposed to one-day going public. Using a temporary invite-only model, the server gradually expanded. Miles invited ZerkBagu and HowdeyFlowey; Lemons invited Guildmate and sparkypi; Middie invited Elmusic0; Bagu invited Ech0robot.
Lemons worked hard to fix issues with and improve the server, implementing the entire `/help` page in a GUI and creating the Chef job. He also paid for server upkeep by himself and refused to ask for donations; although Miles still managed to donate half of the upkeep for July.
A number of towns were founded during this period: Hawthorne, Ugab, and Eventide.
Just before the end of Settlers MC, the Bedrock realm of Atreia, led by PLAVALA, started to migrate over to Settlers MC, invited by ZerkBagu.
Settlers MC ended over petty drama, as many small Minecraft servers do. An unlocked chest in the wild (but clearly associated with a town) was partially looted, admin powers were used in controversial ways, animals were griefed with workarounds to get around Towny's protections, and words were said. Whether or which rules were broken depended on whom was asked. For almost the entire month of August, Miles and Middie, the only players (other than sparkypi) who were not involved in the drama, were the only players to log in. Attempts were made to resolve the conflict admirably, but not all parties sought resolution. Bad blood boiled. After a tense few weeks, disagreements over moderation philosophy (in combination with the stress of the drama) led to Lemons starting a new server, leaving Miles with a backup of Settlers MC in case anyone wanted to keep playing on the server after what had happened.
Miles, Middie, and Bagu had prepared for the worst-case scenario (a server-split) in a Discord group called "The SettleScape Conspiracy", and because of this, Miles was able to start work reviving the server relatively quickly.
Some time after the Discord was rebranded for SettleScape and the SettleScape server was operational, some members of the schism (who were still in the Discord) harassed a female player of SettleScape. This led to the rule that people who had quit the server should be removed from the Discord.
