CVX

The CDC Vaccine Administered (CVX), developed by the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) is a coding system for vaccine preparations. The codes are used for immunization messages and it is a product of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CVX includes currently more than 200 active and inactive vaccine terms. It also indicates a vaccine’s current availability and the last update time for the vaccine code. Inactive vaccine codes allow users to transmit historical immunization data.

Sources

All CVX information is obtained from the following sources:

  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Website
  • Relationships from CVX Vaccines to CVX Vaccine Groups
  • The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Website: Relationships from the CVX to the RxNorm (the RXNCONSO table)

Transformation

The procedures for transforming Concepts from the source to the OMOP Standard Vocabularies can be found on the OHDSI GitHub.

Concept Names

All Concepts are assigned the Full Vaccine Name whereas the Short Description is stored as a Synonym.

Concept Code

Concept codes are taken from the "CVX Code".

Standard Concepts

  • If a CVX concept has a standard equivalent in “RxNorm”, it is considered to be Non-standard.
  • If a CVX concept does not have a standard equivalent in “RxNorm”, it is considered to be Standard.

Domains

All CVX concepts are in the “Drug” domain.

Concept Classes

Two types of concept classes are used in CVX vocabulary:

  • CVX
  • Vaccine Group

This concept class demonstrates how a collection of related vaccines can be grouped together as a vaccine family or group. Such groups comprise several individual vaccines, each designed to effectively combat specific diseases.

Concept Relationships

  • ‘CVX - RxNorm’ relationships are not equal to the ‘Maps to’ relationships and were added only for reference. We build these relationships based on the National Library of Medicine (NLM) Website data. One concept may have several ‘CVX - RxNorm’ links.
  • ‘Has vaccine group’ relationships are created based on ‘Mapping CVX to Vaccine Groups’ table. Vaccine group or vaccine family includes multiple individual vaccines that can be used against particular diseases.

Hierarchy

There are no hierarchical relationships in CVX vocabulary.
