Republic Engineering Core
The Republic Engineering Core (REC) currently serves as Terran Republic's government-funded military - protecting Terran space from piracy, and maintaining order, in exchange for relative autonomy, unrestricted access to the Terran asteroid belts, and continued funding from the Terran government. The REC currently controls the majority of space around Terra and its Asteroid Belt, with planetary bases on Terra and numerous other stations located in orbit.
After the start of the Lunar War, the REC knew that Terra would end up in the conflict in one way or another, and after thorough analysis, decided to side with TFK's forces to attempt regaining control of Luna - expanding the Terran government's presence in the process. This alliance was kept secret for a long time, and the REC agreed to lend TFK damaged or old ships which would be refitted under the guise of them being stolen, lost in combat with pirates, or sold off for scrap, on the condition that after the conflict ended, TFK would give these ships back. REC was fully aware that combat material doesn't tend to come back in pristine condition, and needed yard space to be freed up for newer vessels anyway.
Eventually, LKF found out about this alliance and attacked multiple orbital fleets over Terra. The fleets were not broken but severely weakened, but despite this REC still outnumbers LKF by a large margin, and REC shipyards are famous for being able to crank ships as large as a cruiser in half the amount of time compared to WEC or LKF yard, due to extensive training and advanced equipment. Shipyard workers often say, "destroy one ship, 3 more will take its place". REC pilots are also commonly viewed as some of the best in the system due to the incredibly rigorous and advanced training, with LKF pilots being their only real opposition, WEC posing no threat on that front.
