Session outline

This session aims at presenting three different text-bearing objects and discuss their digital encoding:

  1. The Digital Marmor Parium (http://www.digitalmarmorparium.org).
  2. We will discuss one of the epigrams of Julia Balbilla, incised in the second century on the already-ancient statue of Amenhotep III, and see how digital encoding of this unusual relationship between text and monument, can help to capture both archaeological and advanced linguistic features. (https://github.com/gabrielbodard/Balbilla)
  3. The Vindolanda tablets (http://vindolanda.csad.ox.ac.uk/).
