EducaCie
The EducaCie is the Educatie Commissie of STORM, a.k.a. the education committee. Since STORM is a study association, the EducaCie organizes everything and anything educational -- brainSTORM, finding a study buddy and organizing group study sessions are all responsibilities of the EducaCie.
The brainSTORM is an event where a lecturer from the AI, IS, CS or Mathematics departments gives a lecture of their choice based on something they are passionate about in their field. This does not have to be a lecture based on a course that one of these departments gives. With this, we want to give insight to the students on what else their lecturer do in their daily lives, and to give an additional connection between lecturers and students. Additionally, it does not have to be a lecturer or a course coordinator; if possible, PhD students could be invited, as well as the study advisors for the courses. The brainSTORM also allows the students to take a break from their studies, but still learning something new. BrainSTORMs are followed by a drink so that people can chat for a little bit afterwards with each other and the professor. The drink is free and funded by the EducaCie.
brainSTORM To-Do List
- Plain the brainSTORM for the next few months in advance/for the next academic year. Think of a course of study for every brainSTORM (there should be variety, and so no department gets left begin). Think together about which lecturer you want to be present. Delegate all the necessary roles to everyone.
- Contact the lecturer. Plan a date with them and don't forget to ask if they need anything additional (e.g. a whiteboard)
- As soon as there is a date, it needs to be put in planned activities on the shared Google Calendar.
- Inform the FCO of alcohol at the event, ask for a cleaning hour just in case (ask your committee liaison to do this)
- Inform the PromoCie, so posters could be hung up two weeks in advance and a Facebook post is created. The brainSTORM should also be in the monthly mail.
On the Day:
- Make sure the StoKa looks presentable.
- Rearrange seating so that the lecturer can stand by the projected screen.
- Make sure that the white cloth is hanging properly.
- Make sure the lecturer has something to drink.
- Have everything the teacher asked for extra prepared in advance.
Afterwards, listen to the lecture, have a drink, and then thank the teacher!
Don't forget to clean the StoKa!
When new members sign up to STORM, they have the option to sign to the "bijlesmailinglijst", or the tutor mailing list. The student can sign up for this mailing list to receive notifications of the next study group session, or if there are any students that are willing to give up their time and help their fellow STORMers with their courses. This mailing list has been functionally dead for many years, and therefore most people don't sign up for it as it isn't mentioned to new members most of the time. In the EducaCie drive, you will find two google forms: one for people who would like tutoring, one for who would like to tutor others. This google form is posted once/twice every semester. These google forms allow to connect people directly as well as using the bijlesmailinglijst.
