Themes 🥰

This year's hackathon theme is meta-research and applied health data science, described below:

Theme Description Example topics
Meta-research Meta-research seeks to improve research quality by promoting good research practice and dealing with issues that may affect research outcomes

Applied health data science Application of data science techniques to solve real-world health issues

Categories

The outputs of each project in this Hackathon should fall into one of these three categories:

Data story-telling

e.g. data visualization, interactive graphs, poster to inform general hygiene, creative ways to engage an audience

Data analysis

e.g. code or script to analyse health data and present the findings, use of a certain technique/method/library to do analysis

Data and software engineering

e.g. create a Shiny app, python package, new programming language, or producing data - standard data format, ontologies, data mining


Outputs

We accept outputs in any presentable format as long as it belongs to one of the themes and categories above, for example:

  • Infographic poster
  • Powerpoint slides
  • Jupyter notebook
  • GitHub repository (for code)
  • Web application
  • Short video

Please note that each team needs to present their output during the project showcase on the 27th of June, 15:00 - 16:00 BST.
If you are comfortable using GitHub, please also submit your output onto our repo by forking, adding your output to your team's folder, and creating a pull request.
