The following assumes that you are already familiar with the Admin interface. If not then please read The Admin Interface first. It also assumes that you have already created your Item (e.g. manuscript) for this Hand. If not then please follow the instructions in Adding Items (Manuscripts) first.

The DigiPal database contains a large number of fields, many of which are very specific and most of which are not necessary for basic use of the framework. The documentation here describes only the essential fields, so any boxes on forms which are not described can be safely ignored.

  1. Go to the Images Change List (from either the left-hand menu bar, under 'Image' > 'Images', or from the Dashboard), and click on 'Add New Image' in the upper right of the screen.
  2. Select the appropriate Item Part from the drop down list.
  3. In the Locus field, enter the locus that is represented in the image (e.g. '12v' for folios, '16' for pages, etc.)
  4. In the 'Image File' section, click on the 'Choose File' button and select the image file from your hard drive.
  5. If appropriate then select the Media Permission for this image, or enter a new category of permission if required by clicking on the blue '+' next to the drop-down list. This is used to determine whether or not the full-resolution image is available to people who have not yet logged in (see further Content Permissions. If you do not select a Media Permission then the default value for this repository will be used.
  6. Under 'Hand-Image Relationships', select all those Hands which appear in this image. If you have not yet entered any Hands then don't worry as this can be done at a later stage (see Adding Hands and Scribes).
  7. Click 'Save'. It may take some time to save, depending on the size of your image, the speed of your internet connection and the speed of your server.

Please note that your new image will not immediately appear in your search results as first you need to reindex, for which see Rebuilding the Indices.
