We transfer files to the HPC cluster from our personal computers or other locations (and vice-versa) with a tool called Globus. A short description is on the W&M HPC page.
- To get started you'll need to create a "Globus ID" which you can do by filling out this form.
- Once you received a confirmation e-mail that your Globus ID has been created you can go back to the Globus homepage and click on the "Log in" button on the top right. This will take you to a page where you want to click on the blue link called "Globus ID to sign in". Next enter your username and password and you'll be taken to your Globus homepage.
- To connect your computer with Globus you'll also need to download and install an App on your computer called Globus Personal Connect. This allows your computer to talk to the Globus network.
- Once this App is installed on your computer go back to your Globus homepage, which should look something like this
- From your Globus homepage you need to setup your computer as an "Endpoint". Do this by clicking on the "Endpoints" link and use the "add Globus Connect Personal endpoint" link to connect your computer to your Globus account.
- Once this is setup, you can go back to your Globus homepage and click on one of the links to "Start by selecting an endpoint". There, under the "Administered by me" tab, you should find the endpoint you just setup for your computer.
- Finally, you need to select the W&M HPC server as your other endpoint by clinking on the other link to "Start by selecting an endpoint" and in the "Endpoint:" box search for "wm project", which will setup the connection with the "SciClone cluster at W&M: project filesystem". The credentials you enter here should be your W&M user ID and password.
- Now you should have both endpoints setup and your Globus homepage should look something like this
- To transfer files simply select a file or folder from one endpoint and a destination folder at the other endpoint and click the blue arrows to begin the file transfer. Test this with a few small files first to be sure it's working before any large transfers
