Links are used to help users navigate to other pages.

Overview

There are 5 types of links.

Link usage

Usage

When to use

Use Regular links for the following types of links:

  • Inline links (within text)
  • Download links
  • Subway navigation links
  • 'Contributors' links
  • 'Most requested' links
  • 'More information for' links
  • 'What we are doing' links
  • 'Expand and collapse accordion' links
  • 'On this page' table of contents links

Use Regular links emphasis for the following types of links:

  • Inline links (within text)
  • Institutional byline links
  • 'All related...' links under lists of 'What we are doing' sections
  • As needed for any options that fall under 'Regular link'

Use Title links for the following types of links:

  • 'Services & information' title links
  • 'Featured link' title links
  • 'Context-specific features' title links
  • 'Latest news' title links

Use Small links for the following types of links:

  • Breadcrumbs
  • Language toggle

Use Footer links for the following types of links

  • Links in the footer

How to use

Colour

  • Regular links, regular links emphasis, title links and small links should be blue 70b.
  • Footer links located in the blue footer should be white.
  • If the footer link is on white background use blue 70b.

How we created this component- 4A Assessment

We assessed all link types used across Canada.ca and augmented them by grouping them into 5 link types which can be found in the Extended GC Design Library - DECD. We altered some line heights and font styles to create better consistency.
