Pre-release
Nearly complete release of Retro-Go 1.38 for My Retro Game Case - Game Box Mini.
Unlock the full potential of your teeny, tiny handheld! Retro-Go is in active development by the community, and features enormous benefits compared to the old firmware your unit came with.
Pros: (Compared to Stock)
- Clean, efficient menu with changeable themes, fonts, tabs.
- Manage files over WiFi from your web browser, on any device in your network.
- Option to view Box Art, Save Previews, or both in the launcher.
- Multiple save states
- Vastly improved NES compatibility.
- Multiple palettes available for Gameboy games.
- Added emulators for PC-Engine, Atari Lynx, Game and Watch, SNES (slow), and Sega Genesis (slow)
- No more battery icon using up valuable screen real estate during gameplay.
- Crash handler, to easily recover in the event of a crash
- It runs Doom. No, really!
- And more!
Cons: (Compared to Stock)
- No music player.
- No text reader. (You're not missing much.)
Known Issues:
- Battery Meter needs to be implemented. (Help Wanted!)
- Screen is noticeably cropped NES, SNES, Genesis, PC Engine, as downscaling isn't implemented for gameplay in Retro-go yet. Most games are still visible enough to be played.
Installation Instructions:
- Download
retro-go_1.38_mrgc-gbm.fw
below and place it in/espmini/firmware/
on your device. (Recommended: Always keep a copy of your old firmware there in case you want to reinstall it!) - Turn on your unit while holding the Menu button (second from the right) down to access the bootloader. (If it freezes, turn off your unit and turn it on again. It should automatically load the bootloader.)
- Select
retro-go_1.38_mrgc-gbm.fw
from the menu and press the upper-left button to begin flashing Retro-Go. (If it freezes, turn off your unit and try again.) - You will automatically boot into Retro-Go!
- Highly recommended: You can create wi wifi access point directly on your device to manage files through a web browser. For added convenience, you can also set up wifi by following the directions here in order to connect your device to your home wifi network, and manage the files from any computer or phone you have.
- Optional: Copy your saved games from the stock firmware into
/retro-go/saves/
to continue your progress.
Changelog compared to beta 4:
- GBC: Added support for MBC30 (For Pokemon Crystal romhacks)
- Launcher: Added a new scroll behaviour (Options -> Scroll mode)
- Misc bug fixes
Edit: I forgot to fix the online updater for 1.38. This is now fixed.
