There are unit tests in Openswan. They are invokes by "make check" at the top of the Openswan tree. (Previously, the UserModeLinux tests were also run by make check, but as of 2.6.39, this is not the case anymore)

In addition, the unit checks are run by travis-ci.org, see: https://travis-ci.org/mcr/Openswan/

Some unit checks need a fairly sophisticated set of configuration called a whackrecord; this can be captured by running pluto with a special option.
