Welcome to the LED_finger_ring wiki!

LED Finger Ring

  • Uses 300 mm long flexible "rope/string" type LED
  • The 3D printed ring has an inner diameter of 19 mm / 0.748"
  • Inner circumference is 59.66 mm / 2.35"
  • US / Canada ring size 9

You can use either 1632 or 2032 coin cell if you make the battery holder from 1 mm dia brass wire as I've done (see /photos folder).

If you use SMD type battery holder, then 1632 size would probably be the right size to use. The holder for 2032 battery may be too big.

ASSEMBLY

  • The ring size is not adjustable since we need the ends of the LED to line up. Increasing or decreasing the number of turns may change the ring diameter substantially - YMMV.
  • 3D print the ring housing. Layer height, infill and perimeters are not critical. I used 0.2 mm layer height, 15% infill and 3 perimeters
  • Supports are not required if your printer is well calibrated.
  • Wrap the flexible LED - approx 4 turns.
  • Mark the anode and cathode of the LED to prevent soldering mistakes.
  • Bend a piece of brass wire as shown in the picture for the negative side of the battery contact. About 0.80 mm to 1.00 mm dia will work well. The wire needs to be stiff enough to hold the battery in place. The negative contact is held in place by a combination of soldering (to the cathode of the LED) and some superglue and/or hot melt glue.
  • Bend another piece of brass wire as shown in the picture for the positive side of the battery contact.
  • Add a battery and you're done.
