Supermium 126.0.6478.249
Supermium 126 is the first release using Chromium ESR tags. This means that Supermium will remain on version 126 until February 2025 and focus on fixing bugs and adding features instead of continuously performing major rebases. This will be important to deal with the ongoing removal of classic Chrome theming and the upcoming removal of Manifest V3 from standard Chromium.
Re-download if you have installed Supermium 126 before 1945 UTC on September 3 2024. Issue #849 affected earlier releases of version 126, and it has now been corrected.
Changes in this release:
(#820) - heap corruption fixed when loading DirectWrite on Windows XP x86
(#814, #832) - libraries included to support DirectWrite now included
(#838) - UACH is now disabled using the following syntax: --disable-feature=EnableUserAgentClientHint
and UACH data will no appear with JavaScript
(#807) - memory leak when searching long lines using Ctrl+F removed
-Classic Chrome theming maintained in address bar, menus, and the new tab button. Windows 11 menu metrics have been disabled by default; use --win11-menus
to restore them or use them on non-Windows 11 systems.
Supermium 124.0.6367.245 R2
Last release before rebase to Supermium 126. This is a short-term release to serve users dealing with several issues before the rebase is completed within the next ten days, with changes specific to Chromium 126.
Some bug fixes have been applied:
-(#761) Anti-aliasing of fonts now enabled by default, even when system font smoothing is disabled, due to poor visual appearance. To revert this change, use the flag --disable-browser-font-smoothing-win
.
-(#722) Black backgrounds no longer appear behind UI elements when DWM is disabled or not available.
-(#720) DirectWriteCore now bundled with Supermium, as well as Noto Color Emoji. Colour emojis and other modern DirectWrite features are now available on Windows XP/Vista/7/8.x, as well as remote fonts, printing, etc. VC++ 2015 runtime needed to use this version of DirectWrite, or else it will fall back to GDI or older DirectWrite
-(#779) UACH now defaults to Google Chrome. It is also possible to disable UACH outright using the flag --remove-client-hints or associated feature as done in older Chromium versions.
-(#733) Installer now places desktop shortcuts in proper locations. Browser is registered in HKCU on Windows 8 and above if installing for a single user. The changes have also reduced the number of AV detections for the 32 bit Supermium installer.
-(#588) Flag --force-generic-download-icons
introduced to prevent creation of excess number of processes when viewing download history.
Supermium 124.0.6367.245
Here is the main release of Supermium 124.0.6367.245. It contains further enhancements over the previous Supermium 124 release:
(#687) - fixed Windows 8.1 NVIDIA instability issue.
(#692) - Colour issues fixed on bookmark UI.
(#645, #693) --disable-machine-id
and --disable-encryption
switches will no longer result in profile data loss. Furthermore a new switch named --revert-from-portable
will allow the user to revert a portable user data directory to non-portable without data loss as well. Warning dialogs will appear if the latter switch is used as it is only to be used temporarily, and is to be disabled when the directory has been successfully moved.
(#588) - the number of simultaneous download view icon loader processes is limited to 25. Any other processes will wait for others to complete.
(#721) - a minor issue preventing Supermium from recognizing itself as the default browser on Windows Vista/7/8.x has been fixed.
-The user agent will now report as version 127 to prevent issues with web services detecting Supermium as an outdated browser. This practice will likely continue when Supermium makes use of 126 ESR patches starting in August or September, as Chromium ESR tags are not widely known.
Furthermore, a new icon has been implemented in this release. Thanks to user "XakerTwo" for discovering the issue with the previous icon, and thanks to user "Darthagnon" for creating the new icon.
Windows 8.1 D3D11 Video Decoder Test v2
This is another release (chrome.dll only) intended for continuing issues associated with certain NVIDIA GPUs on Windows 8.1.
Supermium 124.0.6367.245
Based on various tests, any issues that may have been caused by the move from 122 to 124 have been resolved. However, various feature additions that were planned for 124 were not finalized at this time. As a result, various customization features previously planned will be introduced in a later release of Supermium 124.
Nonetheless, other issues have are resolved in this version:
(#593, #600, #602) - ungoogled-supermium is revised to diverge somewhat from ungoogled-chromium core patches, in that access to the Chrome Web Store is no longer impeded, while continuing to block all Google connections involuntarily initiated by the browser.
(#643) - blockage of large highly-compressed images removed due to causing incidental issues in Google Street View.
(#667) - CVE-2024-5274 addressed.
(#539) - Optimizations updated to remove CFG function calls.
HTML5 notifications now work in Windows 7 after workaround for a bug in the OS is restored (see 2152f4e in the v124/m124 branch).
(#598) - update to M124 enables some newer extensions to work.
Supermium 122.0.6261.152 (R6) - SECURITY PATCH
Another high-risk V8 vulnerability was disclosed (CVE-2024-4947). For that reason, another release of Supermium 122 has been made. Provided there are no further high-risk vulnerabilities, the next Supermium release will be in mid-June.
Some other changes were made:
-(#573) - lazy composition disabled by default due to isolated rendering bugs on Windows 7/8.1, use --force-lazy-compositor
to disable
-(#576) - microphone input now works again on Windows XP
-(#568) - #compact-ui now covers bookmark bar
-(#578) - Supermium uninstaller now available, and shortcut is created in Start Menu/Programs
-(#574) - Screensaver no longer appears when watching videos on Windows XP (and likely Vista as well)
-(#580) - 8px tab strip gap becomes optional, split into --old-tab-strip-bounds
-(#569) - Supermium installer now has commands for silent mode, Use -y --silent
combined with a variety of flags to invoke. --system-level
installs Supermium to Program Files while another path can be specified using "--path=%PATH%" (there is no "default path" so one of these two flags must be present).
Other flags that can be used:
--install_emoji
: installs Segoe UI Emoji
--shortcuts
: creates shortcuts
--no_registry_writes
: does not write to registry
--ungoogled
: enables Ungoogled mode in shortcuts
--classic_theme
: enables classic theme in shortcuts
