How to use wiremaps

Usage

The web interface is pretty easy to use. You can almost drive it just with the mouse: select an host in the drop down list, then click on the interface that you want to see and follow the links to get more and more information.

At the top right corner, you can enter a host name, an IP, a MAC address or VLAN numbers. Those elements will be searched extensively through the database and appear at the top of the interface. You can then grab additional information by following the links.

If you get some failure message, there will be more information in the logs of the application.

The Refresh link above the photo of the equipment allow you to refresh the current equipment. All info will be retrieved and the interface will be refreshed. However, the information displayed also contains information from other hosts (for example, the ARP table of other hosts) and therefore, only a full crawl can really refresh all the information.

It is also possible to get information that were available in the past. Click on the clock in the upper right corner to display a field where you can enter a date. Wiremaps will then present the data that were available at this date. You can come back to the present by clicking again on the clock.

There is very little information on Linux host because there is very little we can accurately get through SNMP. We don't have a FDB table and no discovery protocol is available. Wiremaps wants to get LLDP information from those hosts. You can use for example lldpd for this.
