Installation Tutorial

This tutorial will walk you through installing the TAC Life Support mod and setting everything up so that it is ready to use.

Important!

Make sure you backup your save before installing this mod. I take no responsibility for anything that might go wrong. This mod intentionally kills Kerbals. Be aware.
Requires Module Manager from sarbian, originally created by ialdabaoth.

  1. Find the directory where you installed Kerbal Space Program, which I will call {KSP}.

  2. Backup the {KSP}/saves directory by copying it somewhere that you can get the files in case something messes up your saves.

  3. If you are upgrading from a previous version, delete all directories that start with {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport, including:
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportContainers
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportHexCans
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportMFT
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportRecyclers
    etc.

  4. Download the latest release. The file should be named TacLifeSupport_{version}.zip where {version} is the version number, like TacLifeSupport_0.8.0.4.zip.

  5. Extract the zip file that you downloaded in step 4 either: (a) directly into the {KSP} directory, or (b) to some other directory and copy the GameData directory from there to your {KSP} directory.
    When you are done, you should have the following directories:
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportContainers
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportHexCans
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportMFT
    {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportRecyclers

and the TacLifeSupport.dll should be in the {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport directory.

  1. If you have not already installed Module Manager, do so now.

  2. If you want to use this with blizzy78's Toolbar and you have not installed it yet, do so now. Not required, but if you have it, the icon will be added to the toolbar instead of being by itself.

  3. Run Kerbal Space Program.

  4. A settings window will pop up in the Space Center scene the first time that you load a save, either a new one or an existing one started before installing this mod. This is where you can disable the mod for that particular save, or you can disable crew respawn so that Kerbals that die stay dead. This window will always be accessible from the Space Center scene.

  5. If you installed the Toolbar, you will need to add the TAC Life Support button to the toolbar in each scene.

  6. Profit!
