I began work on the BFG Repo-Cleaner in December 2012 - since then it has been downloaded many thousands of times and been used all around the world. For many developers it is an emergency tool of last resort, when things have gone seriously wrong - they realise their repository unintentionally contains system credentials/passwords. For data scientists it is invaluable to remove the massive dataset files that Git does not handle too well! It was built to be as simple to use as possible, all in my spare time, and I still maintain it to this day, and try to find time improve it and make even better. The demands of work & parenthood make it difficult to find that time, but I would appreciate if companies where this tool is used take the opportunity to contribute through sponsorship to it's continued life.
Beyond the BFG I've worked on many other open-source projects (Agit, Spongy Castle, and several different libraries)- and when I can justify taking the time to work on them, I can produce many more things.
