@Ojimadu yes, I believe we have a subreddit /r/rchain-coop. But reddit is one of the main reasons that we will want a position like this. we need to have active engagement on these channels more then currently.

At this point I dont know, was putting it as an issue in order to get feedback on what we think the role should entail, and if its worthwhile filling in out a personalized SOW.

I'll take this as your interested and will keep you updated. You can pm me your linkedin on discord if you'd like, I enjoyed the article that you wrote.

Community managers is somewhat ambiguous. I suggest Ambassador rather than Manager.
While there should be one responsible person we should encourage more links.
I suggest each channel be a /dig action activity in mattermost where members can commit to cover the channels they frequent

@momchilov, I frequent reddit but mostly just to read and not really engage in discussion until recently because some sub-reddit I use requires certain amount of karma to participate especially /r/ethtrader. I also frequent Telegram, Facebook and discord.

@kennyrowe most certainly. I will help show them the ropes and part of the role will include engaging in the activist weekly meeting to provide feedback.

@kitblake so it doesn't seem ATM we have the info for @rchain, lets run with the one that you have.

@derek7272, @Ojimadu, @kitblake @momchilov

I'll need to make a form to fill out for those that are interested.

subreddit is first priority, so if we could get RChain_Official operational asap would be of great help.

Great, if @ResonanceXX can translate the pinned message and rules, that's covered. I setup the corresponding files:
https://github.com/rchain/Members/blob/master/projects/bots/groupbutler/rules_fr.md
https://github.com/rchain/Members/blob/master/projects/bots/groupbutler/pinnedmessage_fr.md

Perfect @ResonanceXX !

For co-operators:
We now have Telegram bot files that follow the country naming convention, e.g. rules_fr.md
If needed we can create rules_cn.md, pinnedmessage_cn.md, etc.

I have also translated the welcome message and it's been set. The rules have been set in the group also. If there be any need for amendment you can suggest.

@kitblake @lapin7 @patrick727 I notice a bug on the telegram group. The group butler double messaged me when I installed the welcome message. It could be a bug in the new group butler [beta] because we only have one bot installed the group. Still trying to figure it out.
Also, the response from the Group butler is slow.

How-To Update the Telegram Pinned Message
For new Telegram admins who don't know Github, updating the pinned message is complex:

  1. Go to the appropriate file on Github, e.g. https://github.com/rchain/Members/blob/master/projects/bots/groupbutler/pinnedmessage_fr.md (login if needed)
  2. Edit the doc (click on the pencil icon at the upper right of the box that surrounds the content). The code will appear in an editable textarea.
  3. Put your cursor in the textarea, and select all.
  4. Copy all the code.
  5. Switch to Telegram, and paste the code into the message box.
  6. Hit enter, and the message will post.
  7. Right click, or tap, on the message and choose Pin Message from the menu.

Done.

We have an interesting situation here. A "negative" reward was given to another participant.
It's good to explain it here by the ones who are involved, because it's a peer-controlled-correction so to speak.

Just to clarify on the reasons for the negative rewards. I believe that this is a decent monthly budget issue due to the number of Channels this issue covers and the number of hours cooperators spend on managing these channels.

I mainly handle the reddit, bitcointalk, telegram, telegram trading (unofficial) channel and recently added a bot to track the activity in the official telegram channel. I believe the numbers here speak for themselves with regards to reward allocation.

I believe my activity across the channels lets me have a good gauge over the activity done in the various social / communication channels and I do not spend much time in Github commenting on issues as a result. The decision to place negative rewards only on this issue is due to the attack vector we faced from the previous month with ResonaceXX applying rewards to issues for mere comments.

This month we encountered the same issue and in fairness to @sportshark who had for 2 months had his issue of managing the QQ group and the Chinese fan website unfairly allocated. I believe that reward allocations should be based on the merits of the work done cited in the issue and not merely based off the comments activity in Github.

image As can be seen in the screenshot, clearly the rewards system is being exploited by certain individuals and I have decided to give negative rewards to ensure the fairness of the rewards system as suggested in the previous month.

dckc commented Jan 29, 2018

I struggle with budgets and rewards for this issue because the scope is not clear to me.

I would appreciate it if someone would explain and/or narrow the scope of this issue. How can we tell if we're done? Half way? Perhaps change the title to "grow community channels to 1000s of subscribers" and set goals such as 1000 on telegram (done) or 2000 (done?) and similar numbers on other channels.

While most of the work happens elsewhere, a brief report of progress here would be nice. Were there any particularly difficult situations you had to handle? Which messages need to be repeated most often? What onboarding techniques are most effective? To communicate RChain's value proposition, is there anything you find useful to point to, or do you write novel answers each time the topic comes up?

p.s. I started https://github.com/rchain/Members/wiki/Channels-Moderators as a way to collect some relevant info that's spread across issues such as this one and #162.

Hey all,

Yesterday I did some research on Keaycee's rewards allocation practices. I think this is highly toxic, and definitely needs to be talked about. This document greatly supports the point @Mervyn853 is making:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/11ipXnA_5TjKFbKcZlE6FmyBUvXM-_UfI-jn6zMg2Rs8/edit?usp=sharing

Bottom line: I fully support @Mervyn853 's allocation decision, and I think practices like that of @Keaycee pose a serious threat to the proper functioning of the coop.

P.S. It might be worthwhile to escalate this topic into it's own Github issue / discuss area.
Also curious to hear the thoughts of @Keaycee himself.

Ojimadu commented Jan 29, 2018

I share the same sentiments as @Mervyn853 most of the work done on this issue is based off github as work is done managing other channels like telegram and reddit. I think this issue needs more clarity or there should be a split so work done can easily be tracked.

Keaycee commented Jan 29, 2018

@Ojimadu @Mervyn853 @pmoorman Well, very true of what you said. Most of the issues i vote was on random selection and have no negative interest. Is there a document which state how the voting is been done? Many members don't know how this voting really works like. If i had voted for an issues wrongly, the first approach is too correct the coop member and also let him or her know the right way to do it just like @Mervyn853 did. It was my first experience in voting, i usually think there is a committee in check on that or sets the percentages. I get to know that it was decentralized. Since the voting is decentralized, corrections can easily be made. However, i suggest a document stating on how the voting system works should be made know to the coop newbies. Or probably set a board that does the voting.

@pmoorman

Hey @Keaycee it's great to read your response, and I think you're right about it: this is one of the most confusing parts for new people to understand.

I am a newbie myself (just like you), and in a different kind of way it is causing me a very similar kind of confusion.

Suggestion...
How about we escalate this into a separate Github issue, and get to work creating something that will help everyone better understand how to vote in a way that'll keep everyone happy?

I would love to work together with you on something like that. Less confusion would lead to much happier coop members, across the board.

P.S. please note: I think the whole idea is still to keep things decentralised, and NOT have a board decide. So really the solution here is to work on clarity, and a little bit of "checks and balances" like his discussion... so that everyone understands how things work.

@Keaycee I'll invite you to the new issue once it's created, so we can work on it together.

@patrick727
Contributor Author

Yes this issue as morphed and lost its scope.

I'm going to close it and based on peoples activities personally reach out to become a "cooperator"

Then the cooperator tasked with a channel, such as telegram can create those issues that @dckc referenced, such as "2000 telegram subscribers" hopefully more like "50 Downloads of the SDK through telegram" so we can drive KPI's
