Data Abstract
Glacier albedo plays a crucial role in regulating surface energy balance and consequently, mass balance. However, a comprehensive understanding of global glacier albedo changing remains elusive. This dataset presents daily mean glacier albedo derived from the MOD10A1.C61 (Hall and Riggs, 2021a) and MYD10A1.C61 (Hall and Riggs, 2021b) products for 19 regions defined by the Randolph Glacier Inventory version 7.0 (Rgi 7.0 Consortium, 2023). These regional albedo values are weighted by glacier area to estimate daily mean albedo for global glaciers. Additionally, daily mean 2-meter air temperature and precipitation data, derived from the ERA5-Land dataset (Muñoz-Sabater et al., 2021) within each region's glacierized areas, are included. The dataset also encompasses daily aerosol optical depth (AOD) data (Lyapustin, 2023), spatially averaged over each region's glacier extent. All calculations were performed using Google Earth Engine (GEE), and the associated scripts are provided. GeoJSON files delineating the regional boundaries used for AOD calculations are also included.
