I wrote this code a few weeks ago and forgot to submit it
This is to address https://jira.slac.stanford.edu/browse/ECS-6685
This works offline and doesn't seem to break the test suite
Before asking for reviews I intend to test it on the repo that needed the fix and link the GHA results here
