OpenATV is an Open Source project, and we welcome community contributions. One way to help is translate the Image texts into your local language.
All texts in the image are enclosed in some code and are so allowed to be captured into a POT file. From this POT file a PO file is created that allows you to give an alternative naming of the text. For Dutch the PO file will be called nl.po and an translation example could be :
Original The sun is shining today
Dutch De zon schijnt vandaag
Every night those PO files get converted to a MO file, and that MO file is used in the final image you flash.
First download POedit from there website.
Second you need the get your hands on the PO file for your language.
The quickest is to download the complete OpenATV zip file.
Alternatively you could also download a single PO file directly from here.
(Select the PO you want, and at the right-top is a button called RAW
and save it)
For most languages there is already a PO file created, but in case its not you can create one with Poedit.
The next step is to update the PO file with the POT file. This ensures that the po file is updated with the latest texts from the OpenATV image.
That can be done by opening the PO file in Poedit and select the option Catalogue
--> update from POT file...
. and save.
Now that you have an up-to-date PO file you can start the actual translating. In the list (1) select the text you want to translate. In box (2) the original text will be shown, and in box (3) you can add your translation.
Thats about it. ;)
Once you are done with your PO file it has to be uploaded to the OpenATV Github repository, so it can be used in the image the next day. For novice users it can be a little hard to find there way on how to this on Github. So just upload the file on the OpenATV forums , and one of the moderators will upload it for you.
Yes you can. Poedit automatically creates a MO file next to the PO file.
Simply FTP into your box. and go to /usr/share/enigma2/po/XX/LC_MESSAGES/enigma2.mo
(the XX
stand for your language)
And rename your new MO file to enigma2.mo
and overwrite it on your box. Restart and you should have the new translations onscreen.
In case no MO file is created, you can create it form the poedit menu. :
- Try to stay within the original number of characters for the text, so when 20 characters than try to limit the translation to about the same number. (A longer translation might not fit the field in the GUI.)
- Dont do a simple 1:1 translation, try to describe the function properly.
- Some text does include code, make sure you use that also in the translation.!
