What are Beiwe's rules for password complexity?

Currently supported for the web-based research portal: Passwords must be 8 characters or more and require all of the following:

  • at least one lower case letter

  • at least one upper case letter

  • at least one numeric character

  • at least one special character (! @ # $ % ^ [ ] etc.)

Does the Web-based research portal timeout after 15 minutes of inactivity?

The timeout is longer than 15 minutes. However, once past the research portal login (access allows creation/editing of survey questions and patientIDs for your enrollees), there’s a 2nd security mechanism for downloading data. A 64 digit username/password combo is required in order to be able to download the data which provides additional protection of patient data. This is required since the data is encrypted on the server. The 64 digit un/pw combo is required every time data is downloaded. (The data, by the way is un-identifiable except for potentially GPS and voice recordings if you’re using those two data options.)

Regarding the web-based research portal, will accounts be locked out after 5 invalid attempts?

This is not currently implemented but it has been added to our feature request list.

Will members of the Onnela Lab have access to potentially identifiable information?

The Onnela Lab IRB considers GPS data (which records geographical location of the smartphone) and audio recordings (in which a participant could mention personally identifiable information) to be two types of data that the Onnela Lab has access to that can potentially contain identifiable information.

In terms of traditional identifiable information (name, ID numbers, social security numbers, emails, birth dates, etc.), the Onnela Lab does not have access to any of this.

If your IRB is interested in the format of the data, this Github link may be helpful: [https://github.com/onnela-lab/beiwe/wiki/Passive-Data ](Passive data)
