True, we do swear about the pathetic sound, the poor video quality of the video screened, and last, but not at all the least, the quality of movies screened. But, we still go to the Audi everytime the RAF notices are put up on the mess notice boards. Why? Because every BITSian has a love-hate relationship with RAF. The RAF experience is rarely about the movies themselves. People get better quality prints on LAN, which they can watch at their leisure. In fact, the RAF experience is about watching the movie with your entire wing (or your girlfriend/boyfriend, if you are that lucky) sitting right next to you. It's about laughing together, crying together and passing comments about what is being shown on the screen. It is about the shouts of '1,2,3,4, ??? ??? ?? ????????'. It is about the memories that will come back to us once we get out of BITS, go to a multiplex, see a fantastic scene, and feel like screaming to your heart's content.

Here's what I wish from RAF: that it should continue it's work in preserving the BITSian cult, which it has become a part of. I also hope that the RAF committee members will kindly consider showing classics instead of showing the 4th flop of the season in a row.

*Disclaimer: This is a diary posting. Anyone not interested may please stop reading.*

October 5 – 12, 2008.
October 5 - 12, 2008.

It's been another hectic week in my BITSian life. The week began with the '[World Space Week][1]' celebrations by the **Astronomy Club, BITS Pilani**. The events in the Week were lectures by **Prof. Kaushar Vaidya** (Physics Group), **Kshitij Garg** (a Club member) and **Prof. Jayant Murthy** (Indian Institute of Astrophysics). The week also included **Night Sky Watching Sessions** held atop the FD-III Terrace, in the Astro Room, for the BITSian Faculty, Students, and an exclusive session for the students studying at the schools of the NSS (Pilani Chapter) and Nirmaan. It was great fun to see the *Moon, Jupiter, Andromeda Galaxy, Vega, the Eta Lyra binary stars, and the Pleaides star cluster* through the Club's telescopes.

It's been a long time since I last posted something on this blog. And lots of things have happened since then. One thing that is on everyone's mind these days is the [Terrorist Attack on Mumbai][1] that happened last week. [Here][2] are a few brilliant pictures of the attack. Everyone across India watched in awe as media broadcasted live images of one of the worst terrorist attacks that Mumbai has faced in recent times. That this entire event was a tragedy of the largest scale is beyond dispute. But what is even worse, is the aftermath of the attacks that have happened in Indian Politics. Here are a few news reports on the internet after the attack (*sources: NDTV.com and IBNLive.com alerts*):

* [Congress-BJP Slaging Match over Terror Begins](http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/mumbaiterrorstrike/Election_Story.aspx?ID=NEWEN20080074495&type=News "NDTV Feed")
* [Congress-BJP Slaging Match over Terror Begins](http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/mumbaiterrorstrike/Election_Story.aspx?ID=NEWEN20080074495&type=News "NDTV Feed")
* **Advani to skip all-party meeting on Sunday**
* **Shivraj Patil should have resigned earlier: Lalu Yadav**
* [Vilasrao Deshmukh in RGV trouble](http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/mumbaiterrorstrike/Election_Story.aspx?ID=NEWEN20080074730&type=News "NDTV Feed")
* [Nearly 7,000 people have died since 2004: MHA](http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20080074695 "NDTV Feed")

* [Nearly 7,000 people have died since 2004: MHA](http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20080074695 "NDTV Feed")

Until a few days back, I was an optimist. Though the rot in the politicical system of India was clearly visible, there was a small amount of hope that the few good people in the Parliament, who have an iota of common sense could, over time, weed out this menace of using each and every event to play *divisive, regional and communal* politics. When I read the above news articles however, I was amazed at the levels our '*LEADERS*' could reach, for personal and extremely short term gains. The Opposisition Leader does not attend the All Party Meet organised by the Prime Minister. The UPA and NDA leaders play the blame game. The Cheif Minister of Maharashtra turns up at the scene of attack in a 'tourist' mood. And then, the Ruling Party puts out a report through the Home Ministry, clearly pointing out the 'efficiency' with which the UPA Government has prevented terrorist attacks, as against the NDA Government. The timing of the report surely raises doubts about the intentions. However, the sickening fact is that they still take *glory* in the fact that '**7000**' people have **died**. The political leaders need to be shown that they'd better start taking their job seriously, or that they too can be kicked out of their positions, just like everyone else. I so hope that our voting machines had an option, '**None of the Above**'. That, I think, is the only option that can keep politicians, both in the ruling party and the opposition, on their toes.

Almost when I was about to give up, Google showed me the Launchpad bug. A few minutes later, with 'libqca2-plugin-gnupg' installed, and after restarting Psi, we were back in business. Now, I am not exactly sure I understood the circumstances of the bug, but my guess is that it happened when the Ubuntu cryptography architecture moved to QCA2. Whatever it was, gpg support in Psi was broken, without any notification in either Psi or Ubuntu sites documenting this. So, for the sake of documentation, all those who wish to use Psi on Ubuntu 8.04 or higher, please check if you need to install '**libqca2-plugin-ossl**' and '**libqca2-plugin-gnupg**' when you find that you are unable to use a gpg key.
