Streets 2.0 is finally ready to be released!
Sunday, 22 May 2016
With each release, it became harder to add new nodes with markings. Not due to lack of ideas, not due to missing graphical skills, but simply because of the limited amount of possible craft recipes on a 3*3 grid and only two items required for the craft: dye and asphalt.
It did work somehow until 1.5, but with 2.0 the amount of road markings kind of explodes, so that the old crafting system won't work anymore (Unless you can invent recipes for thick and thin sidelines, dashed and solid which can be remembered easily without confusing them with each other...
You might know the sign workshop from Streets 1.5, at least I hope so. The next release will implement something similar for markings: the Asphalt workshop
This untextured prototype prints the markings on asphalt surfaces without having to use a craft recipe. How is it going to work?
Let's say we want to transform a stack of red asphalt into a stack of red asphalt with a yellow double solid center line:
-
Make sure the dye tank of the desired color is filled, otherwise fill it (slot not visible in screenshot)
-
Switch to mode "yellow" by clicking the button with the "Yellow dye" on it
-
Move the template from the list into the template slot (right)
-
Move your stack of asphalt into the input slot (left)
-
Wait for it to finish its work (1-2s per node)
The screenshot of the workshop's form is not showing the final form, it still lacks some content: ink refill slots (under the color buttons) and at least labels for the input and template slots.
Technically, this step allows me to be more flexible and therefore more creative when adding new markings. I really hope that the players can/will accept this because it's ignoring the classic crafting system... Whatever, we'll find out when I open a Beta server for you. Stay tuned!
