find-words-java is a JavaFX implementation of my project scrabble-words, originally written in Perl as a command line program. It takes the information you supply about the tiles in your hand and returns a list of possible words to play, sorted by highest score.
The app now has crossword and Wordle modes where it will suggest words for those games too.
The app has now been re-rewritten in Python (find-words-python) and for a live website find-words-web. The intent is that all projects will stay functionally in sync (we'll see).
- Java 11 or greater. For Java 1.8, see the
java8
branch. - Maven 3.6.1 (Lower versions may work, but this is what the project was tested with)
(The java8
branch is unfortunately way behind the Java 11 branch.)
This project uses Maven to build an executable jar file. From the command line, execute:
mvn clean package
If you want to run with the current source files, use Maven:
mvn exec:java
If you've built the project (see above) you can find this file with your system's file browser:
/<install-directory>/target/FindWords-2.x.x.jar
where 2.x.x
is the version number. Try double-clicking the file. If it doesn't execute in a few seconds, try one of these suggestions:
- in Windows, try associating Java with
.jar
files - in Linux-like systems, try making the jar file executable with
chmod 755
or the like
Or, if you have Java in your PATH, you can execute the jar file from the command line:
java -jar /<install-directory>/target/FindWords-2.x.x.jar
- faster processing, in general
- wildcards are scored correctly
- ability to have two wildcards in a hand
- crossword and Wordle modes
- clear buttons on fields
