What is Hacktoberfest ❓
Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean and DEV.to — is a month-long celebration of open source software.
If you're one of the first 50,000 to open four pull requests between October 1 and October 31, you'll win a free, limited edition Hacktoberfest T-shirt.
There are also other companies participating, as mentioned below!
- If you haven't already, sign up to GitHub
- Sign up to Hacktoberfest
If you're new to Git and contributing to open source, Digital Ocean have a fantastic guide available on how to create your first Pull Request.
DEV.to also has a brilliant illustrated guide on different concepts in git.
You can find interactive Git cheatsheets to learn about Git commands and branching.
Made a mistake? Never fear! Dang it, Git to the rescue.
If you want to see how you're progressing, you can check out your stats at: https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/profile
This year we have our hacktoberfest-halloween-graffiti website that we'd like to showcase at the end of the event! Jump on over there and submit a page with anything you like! Could be some info about yourself, links, gifs or even memes.
Twilio (when helped run Hacktoberfest last year) also have their Open Pixel Art - they're also sending swag to people who participate!
You can view all GitHub issues with the labels "hacktoberfest" and "good first issue" here.
Ben Barth has put together a repository of other companies offering swag as part of Hacktoberfest too!
