Hence data loss on the target will occur. Use at your own risk! ############################ W A R N I N G ################################### Did you see the part where data loss on the target will occur? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ############################ W A R N I N G ################################### The below is the starting point for testing live-medium-install. 1.) Download a debian live image. See http://live-systems.org/cdimage/release/ 2.) Boot the downloaded image on the computer you wish to install and run debian live as firmware. Note: I do most of my testing with a VirtualBox image. 3.) Become the root user: sudo -i 4.) Next we need to download live-medium-install (see VCS for link to the latest live-medium-install): wget 'https://github.com/unixabg/live-medium-install-tools/raw/master/scripts/live-medium-install' -O live-medium-install 5.) Make the script we downloaded executable: chmod +x ./live-medium-install 6.) Run the script: ./live-medium-install From here the script will check for some dependencies and prompt for information to perform the install. ############################################################################## ################### live-partial-squashfs-updates ############################ 1.) First make a working folder: mkdir -p /pathToSome/tempFolder/ 2.) Copy your webboot /var/www/files/pathToYourOriginalWebbootFiles/filesystem.squashfs to /pathToSome/tempFolder/ 3.) cd to /pathToSome/tempFolder/ 4.) Download the latest live-partial-squashfs-updates file to your /pathToSome/tempFolder/ : wget http://install.live-systems.org/scripts/live-partial-squashfs-updates 5.) Make sure it is executable: chmod +x ./live-partial-squashfs-updates So now you have your filesystem.squashfs and live-partial-squashfs-updates in the same folder. 6.) As root run: ./live-partial-squashfs-updates Select the Chroot option and do some minor thing like apt-get update or something, then exit and the script will create a partial squashfs update file. Now the Join options needs multiple partial squashfs updates, so run the script and do chroot and make a few changes each time. Each run _should_ stack the squashfs files in the correct order to have your latest combination presented to you in che chroot. Now when you are happy about all your changes with your partial update files, then you can combine the partial squashfs files to a single new file by selection the (J)oin option. Once you have psu (partial squashfs update) files you can sync them back you the original live folder which has your filesystem.squashfs file. So something like this: rsync -av psu* /var/www/files/pathToYourOriginalWebbootFiles/ ############################################################################## ############## live-medium-install firmware.updates of psu files ############# Now to apply the psu updates boot your live-medium-install setup: 1.) Download http://install.live-systems.org/scripts/firmware.updates 2.) Adjust the script to your rsync setup. 3.) chmod +x ./firmware.updates 4.) As root run: ./firmware.updates 5.) After updates completed halt your system. 6.) Boot your newly updated live-medium-install setup.
