geoconnex.us barn raising

With the geoconnex.us PID server in place, we are ready to move out with a system of cross-referenced environmental features and related resources. This page will be used to plan a cross-organization initial set of PIDs to get some core implementations of geoconnex.us off the ground.

Barn Raising

Goal: Vet the initial geoconnex.us setup and clarify questions for future implementation.
Participants: USGS-Water, IoW, ... ?
Concept: Identify a set of small achievable goals that many participants can contribute to that will get the geoconnex.us project off the ground.
Schedule:

  1. Pre-plan to set commitments and prepare data and systems.
  2. Kick off telecon -- two hours. (June 1st?)
  3. Mid-raising telecon -- one hour on Monday of third week. (June 15th)
  4. Barn-raising tour -- one hour on Friday of fourth week. (June 26th)

Outcomes: Will put in place some fundamental PIDs and set the stage for establishing structured data and community landing content. Example outcomes include:

  1. Mint PIDs and establish a plan for landing content.
  2. Add rudimentary structured data to existing organizational resources.
  3. Establish thematic community reference location projects.

The following are example resources that could be included in the barn raising. Organizational Resources: (These should be web pages that already exist)

  • Selected USGS Monitoring Locations (Stream, Lake, and Well sites)
  • NGWMN Wells
  • WaDE Sites

Community Reference Locations: (These will have placeholder web resources for PIDs to link to)

  • Gage Locations
  • Dams
  • Waterfalls
  • Wells

Environmental Features of Interest: (These will have placeholder web resources for PIDs to link to)

  • COMID Catchments as proxy for flowlines.
  • Local Aquifers
  • NHD Waterbodies
