binormal selection notes

Because I don't have another place to put this at the moment, I am dumping my notes about the binormal_selection() function and citations for the methods it implements.
Aside: we couldn't help ourselves and did a little digging into the binormal_selection function. There is an oblique reference to "see forman" which we think refers to George Forman who has written several articles on feature selection in texts. We should confirm with Ted.
