Guidelines for SMDB creators

Frédéric Mahé edited this page Mar 27, 2021 · 8 revisions

what should go in a SMDB?

  • all games originally designed to run on real hardware,
  • all games modified so they can run on real hardware through cartridge emulators or optical disk emulators,
  • no games from active indie studios, except public demos and open-source games

how to name entries?

  • names: No-Intro is the reference
  • dates should be in YYYY-MM-DD format
  • Translations: Translated name - original language name (region) T+Eng version author date
  • Hacks: Hack name ('source name if not obvious' hack) version author date
  • Unlicensed: Name (Unl)
  • Prototype: Name (Proto)

File extension should indicate on what system the game was used. For example .md for MegaDrive.

where to place entries?

Outside of Game Series Collections, there should be only one entry for a specific checksum. To learn what that means for regional entries (World, USA, Japan, Europe, etc.), please check this discussion.
