Springer Nature has updated its policies - Nature journals now ask researchers who submit papers that rely on bespoke software to provide the programs for peer review. More details are in [this editorial](https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-02741-4), the [guidelines to authors](https://www.nature.com/authors/policies/availability.html#code) have been updated and a [code and software submission checklist](http://www.nature.com/documents/GuidelinesCodePublication.pdf) is available. |

On 17 June 2018 Maria Carla Piastra, Sophie Schrader and Simon Homölle will host a workshop the OHBM2018 conference. The course is aimed at researchers who want to learn how to do MEG and/or EEG source reconstruction. This intense one-day workshop will explain state-of-the-art MEG and EEG source reconstruction methods. Special emphasis will be given to new features available now in FieldTrip to solve the EEG and MEG forward solution with advanced finite element methods. The workshop will consist of a number of lectures, followed by hands-on sessions in which you will be tutored through the complete analysis of a MEG, EEG and MRI data set using the FieldTrip toolbox. As the focus is on source reconstruction, topics that will NOT be covered in great detail are segmenting, artifact handling, averaging, frequency and time-frequency analysis, statistics. For the hands-on sessions you should bring a laptop with MATLAB installed. More information about the program can be found at the OHBM website or [here](/workshop/ohbm2018). |

Check it out! Matthias Treder has kindly contributed a tutorial and some code (streamlined a bit by yours truly) that now allows you to perform MVPA analysis in FieldTrip, using his awesome [MVPA-light toolbox](https://github.com/treder/MVPA-Light) ! For now it is well supported, documented and tested for channel level time domain data, but in the near future (and with your help) we will also ensure support for frequency domain and source level data. For now you can just use **[ft_timelockstatistics](/reference/ft_timelockstatistics)** with cfg.method='mvpa'. The tutorial can be found [here](/tutorial/mvpa_light). |

We just completed the first [ECoG/SEEG toolkit](/workshop/davis2019) at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. The three-day event was packed with lectures, hands-on sessions, and fruitful discussions, with people visiting from all over the US (and beyond). Many thanks also to neurosurgeon Fady Girgis and neuroscientist Bob Knight for providing lectures on the clinical aspects and research applications of intracranial EEG. We plan to upload videos of the lectures, so stay tuned. |

[EEG-BIDS, an extension to the brain imaging data structure for electroencephalography](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41597-019-0104-8) and [iEEG-BIDS, extending the Brain Imaging Data Structure specification to human intracranial electrophysiology](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41597-019-0105-7) have just been published in Scientific Data. These two papers describe the extension to the [BIDS standard](https://bids.neuroimaging.io) to allow it not only to store raw (f)MRI and MEG, but also EEG and iEEG data. The full specification is [here](https://bids-specification.readthedocs.io/en/stable/); you can find further documentation and examples to work with BIDS [here](/example/bids) on this website. |

Over the summer [Caroline Witton](https://www2.aston.ac.uk/lhs/staff/az-index/wittonc-0) and Robert have been busy finalizing the [MEG epilepsy tutorial](/tutorial/epilepsy), which has in fact already been hiding on our website for quite some time. About two weeks ago [Elaine Foley](https://www2.aston.ac.uk/lhs/staff/az-index/dr-elaine-foley) presented it at [SuSIE](http://www.imaging-in-epilepsy.org), the Summer School on Imaging in Epilepsy, Epilepsy Surgery and Epilepsy Research, where it was received with enthusiasm. The tutorial demonstrates kurtosis beamforming and virtual channel time series analysis, both on Neuromag and on CTF data, for multiple patients of whom the data is shared on our download server. It also demonstrates how to visualize source reconstruction results with [MRIcro](https://www.mccauslandcenter.sc.edu/crnl/mricro) and [AnyWave](http://meg.univ-amu.fr/wiki/AnyWave). |

Niels Kloosterman and his team have written code to perform multiscale entropy analysis, and published this on [github](https://github.com/LNDG/mMSE). The code is in FieldTrip style, and easily interfaces with FieldTrip's raw data structure. Go and [check out](/example/entropy_analysis) how this works. |
