It would be useful to link every database entry to a specific ID, so that it's possible to:
highlight relationships between database entries via a new related field listing IDs of related entries
cite a specific entry in an unambiguous and stable way
To make sure this is interoperable across packages and databases, this ID should be generated deterministically rather than using a random ID. This can be achieved via hash functions for example.
This way, we can easily deduplicate entries across databases hosted in different places, as the same entry in, e.g., epireview, and epiparameter would have the same ID.
Open questions are:
which entry fields should be used to compute the hash?
