v1.0.1, two years after the previous minor release

Changes from v1.0.0:

Marking the current "stable" code as v1.0.0

This code has been working fine on multiple platforms (including Mac OS X since 2014), it is fair to mark it as the version 1.0.0.

I'll also try to follow Semantic Versioning.
