LAN configuration

The clusters operate on private LANs that are mediated by an SMC 24/48 port network switch. The switch is configured to host two virtual LANs (VLANs). VLAN1 (ports 1-12) corresponds to the Bulbasaur cluster. VLAN2 (ports 13-24) corresponds to the Octomore cluster. To view and modify the settings on the network switch, you can access its graphical interface from a web browser on Bulbasaur at 192.168.1.199. This IP address is bookmarked and the login and password combination is cached in the Firefox browser. The VLAN settings are accessed under the 802.1Q VLAN folder.

Long term plan

  • Stabilize Octomore as a clustered computing environment
  • Promote Octomore to production cluster and migrate Psyduck and Gyrados
  • Demote Bulbasaur to development cluster
