We are pleased to announce that the newest member of the BIDS Steering Group is [Franco Pestilli](https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/psychology/faculty/fp4834).

Franco has been elected to a term lasting from 2025-2027, and is replacing outgoing member Ariel Rokem.

A little bit about what Franco is bringing to the Steering Group:

> The Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) has emerged as the leading standard for neuroimaging data organization, significantly enhancing data sharing, reproducibility, and collaboration in the field.
> As a member of the BIDS community for over five years, I bring substantial experience in data informatics and governance on both national and international scales.
>
> Moving forward, BIDS faces two main challenges:
>
> 1. Ensuring Comprehensive Data Representation: BIDS must evolve to encompass data types that are routinely published in scientific papers.
> Through my work on the [BIDS Connectivity Project](https://pestillilab.github.io/bids-connectivity/), we have advanced the development of six BIDS Extension Proposals (BEPs), contributing to crucial updates in BIDS governance principles.
> These efforts will help BIDS remain relevant and applicable as new methodologies and technologies emerge.
>
> 1. Expanding Beyond Neuroimaging: BIDS has enormous potential to benefit other scientific communities beyond neuroimaging.
> My involvement in developing new data types for U.S.-based efforts has shown that BIDS could be adapted for broader scientific applications, especially as we move toward BIDS 2.0, incorporating automation and AI.
> By doing so, we can extend the BIDS framework to support an even more diverse range of data and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
>
> I have also led efforts to secure funding to support BIDS initiatives and create tools, such as [ezBIDS on brainlife.io](https://brainlife.io/ezbids/) (widely used for data standardization across the U.S., Africa, and Europe).
>
> I would look forward to contributing to the growth of BIDS, ensuring it remains adaptable and beneficial to a global scientific community.
> I am particularly excited about the opportunity to participate in shaping the future vision of BIDS, including BIDS 2.0 and its applications in automation and AI.
