Noark 5 krever mekanisme for å identifisere hvilke filformater som anses som arkivformat. Denne endringen tilbyr slik mekanisme ved å vedlikeholde en ny kodeliste som er en delmengde av kodelisten Format, som inneholder PRONOM- koder på arkivformater. En API-klient kan så sammenligne dokumentobjekt.format med oppføringer i Arkivformat-kodelisten for å se om den aktuelle filen er i arkivformat eller ikke.
