This repository is a fork of OpenThread. The main goal is to add to a Thread device the ability to store a MUD URL and forward it to the necessary entities in the network. For now, it only has incorporated the ideas of the openthread/src directory of MudThread into a standalone fork of Openthread. This allows me to simply incorporate this repository into other projects as a git submodule. (I.e., my fork of nrf528xx) and of ot-br-posix.
The following to options are added as CMAKE configuration options, to be used in the standard openthread build script (normaly, this build script is not executed from this repository, but in a wrapping repository porting openthread to a specific device, such as nrf528xx):
-DOT_MUDTHREAD=ON
-DOT_MUD_URL="https://url.to.mud/file"
By setting these options, the provided MUD URL will be included in the MLE parent request message. As this message is not guaranteed to reach a border router as was intended in MUDThread, the underlying functionality will change, but for now this is only an attempt at reproducing the results of MUDThread.
OpenThread released by Google is...
...an open-source implementation of the Thread networking protocol. Google Nest has released OpenThread to make the technology used in Nest products more broadly available to developers to accelerate the development of products for the connected home.
...OS and platform agnostic, with a narrow platform abstraction layer and a small memory footprint, making it highly portable. It supports both system-on-chip (SoC) and network co-processor (NCP) designs.
...a Thread Certified Component, implementing all features defined in the Thread 1.3.0 specification, including all Thread networking layers (IPv6, 6LoWPAN, IEEE 802.15.4 with MAC security, Mesh Link Establishment, Mesh Routing) and device roles, as well as Border Router support.
