This repository contains the R code for a shiny app - FLOWIDER 1.0, that displays flood-season water level for 24 rivers and 107 gauging stations across 6 states (Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan) in the Gangetic Plains of India. The application was developed with researchers, scientists and conservationists in mind, to help navigate flood-season time-series (from 2010- 2023, with differing time periods for each station) according to river, station or species of interest.
The underlying data has been retrieved and compiled from various data sources, including the websites of state water resources departments and the Central Water Commission. The FLOWIDER app presents a map view of locations of gauging sites, and date-based graphical options to track the time-series of two stations of interest at once. It also contains detailed metadata relevant to each station such as, stations located upstream and downstream of the selected stations, the zero reference level and danger level (for flooding risks), links to publicly available satellite-based datasets on river water level and discharge, and site location information.
