Suggested hierarchy:

  1. Producer
  2. Editor: someone who oversees and compiles a publication1 * Contributing Editor * Lead editor * Graphics editor * Managing editor * Executive Editor * Production editor
  3. Author: someone who writes a publication * Contributing Author * Coordinating Lead Author * Lead Author * Convening Lead Author2
  4. Contributor: someone who oversees, provides, or creates written or non-prose input (e.g., figures, tables) * Analyst * Contributor * Graphic artist
  5. Facilitator
  6. Distributor: the entity on whose server the document can be found
  7. Host: similar but for web pages
  8. Funding Agency: self-evident although not constrained to Federal agencies
