This is a supercool project!

Would it be possible to patch the new LibreLink version 2.4 accordingly?

Good morning from Spain. Sorry for the question, I'm a Dexcom user looking for an alternative... Does the "new" FreeStyle Libre 2 works with this patched app? Abbott's web here in Spain says it only work with LibreLink 2.4. I've phoned them several times but they are unable to tell me if it will work or not, they don't know if this is really a "new" version of the Libre 2, all they know is what the web says, it only work with LibreLink 2.4 :-(
Thank you so much in advance.

Thank you for your quick reply Anttu. Knowing that I'll try Libre 2.
About LibreView, I prefer not uploading my data to Abbot (or Dexcom). I use NightScout. Once you have xdrip+ working it's really easy to configure. Probably you already know about it, just in case...

Thank again. Take care

Sorry to bother again. I've just installed the patched app. According to Androidaps, I should see this notification in order the app to work in the backgroud:
libre2
if I run the app, I can see its PID with adb shell pidof com.freestylelibre.app.de but if I close it from recent apps pidof doesn't show anything. Is the app correctly patched?
Thank you again

Is it possible that FL2 had some updates and only works with 2.4? I received a new batch of sensors and having the missed alarm issue since then... Yes, I checked my settings, bluetooth is correctly configured and the sensor is started with the patched app. This is now the 3rd sensor not able to receive alerts. Any thoughts?

@JimZam

JimZam commented May 12, 2020

Are you able to use it with xDrip+? If so, why do you need the alerts? xDrip+ will alert you...

The alerts in the patched version is an indicator that the app is connected with the sensor (In my case, xdrip is not receiving data from the app). So, if there is no alert available, no blood sugar values are delivered...

:-( I'm a Dexcom user and wanted to use Libre2. My first post was just about that, everytime I asked Abbott they said Libre2 only works with app version 2.4. I asked if there were a new version of Libre2 and they didn't know. I bought a Libre2 just to try but my Dexcom still works. In any case it's possible the one I have works and the future ones don't, It seems something has changed.

As I mentioned: The sonsors before worked fine - a newly delivered batch stopped working, now the third sensor. It seems that Abott changed something inside the sensors

@JimZam I'm using a miaomiao for turning my Freestlye Libre into a cgm. Unfortunatly there is a xdrip+ issue with some checksums, I'm using the tomato-app. But it is working nicely and is an approved alternative for the patched librelink.

Thank you thomaas. I asked about patched app and Libre 2 at gitter/Androidaps and that's what they answered:

"@JimZam there are known issues with Libre2 with serial Numbers starting with the letter K. So far as I know, the Libre2 ist still working with patched App 2.3."

On the other hand, is your miaomaio 1 or 2? There is a way to make miaomaio 2 work with xdrip+:

@thomaas Mi Libre 2 is up and running. It's serial begings with 3M.
Why, if countinuos monitoring (and local broadcasting) is possible, doesn't Abbott do it?
Regards and thank you to all the people who developed this patch.

@FreDiabetics sorry sollte garnicht so schlaumeier mäßig rüber kommen.

Good evening. Just a question about the patched app. I've it up and runnig with xDrip+ and Libre 2, and at the same time I've a Dexcom with xDrip+ variant (for several days the patched app didn't work so I had to use a Dexcom sensor). It works fine but if I try to use xDrip+ with Dexcom and Libre 2 with xdrip+ variant it doesn't, xDrip+ variant doesn't receive Libreview data. Is it due to de patched app only sending data to an app identified somehow as xDrip+ so xDrip+ variant can't get them?
Just wondering
Thank you so much

Thank you, the app is working. My question is why it works with xDrip+ but not with xDrip+ variant1. Is the patched app sending data somehow to one app identifier? I don't know how it works so I'm sorry if what I say doesn't make sense.

See the Readme in the project. You need to build the apk by your self. I added a Dockerfile if it helps.

Can someone please tell me if it would be able to activate a FreeStyle Libre Pro sensor with the LibreLink app somehow?

Thank you!

@bubbledevteam

somehow

Libre Pro sensor can be activated by the Pro version Reader only ,so it means that you can not do it with Librelink App.

Or you can activate Pro sensors with Bubble transmitter and DiaBox app

I patched it following this instructions:
6b0fd61

But you should better try this fork (in the previous instructions use the smos-gh github instead of TinoKossmann):
https://github.com/smos-gh/LibreLink-xDrip-Patch
It allows you to update data to Abbott servers and reinstall the app without loosing alarms and connection to xDrip. Probably you will have to patch the app with Lucky Patcher to avoid verification failure, see post 227:
https://insulinclub.de/index.php?thread/31380-libre-2-entschl%C3%BCsselung/&pageNo=12

I hope this helps

Good morning. I'm having problems with the patched app, xDrip+ loses data and it seems it stops working, no xDrip information in the Notification Area until I scan the sensor and Librelink has a new reading. In a few seconds xDrip works again. Any idea if this is an xDrip or LibreLink issue? I've tried several xDrip nightbuilds and it's always the same.
Thank you in advance
Regards

Edit: I'll turn on Alarms in LibreLink next time xDrip loses data and check if it works. This way I'll see if it's a matter of xDrip or LibreLink.

is the version 2.3.0.4751 from 2019-04-02 still the actual one?
Or is there any newer version of the patched app?
Cause i saw that file "com.freestylelibre.app.de_2020-02-15.apk.md5" in the APK folder.
Thanks,

I have been using the patched app for months now, last Sunday for the first time the LL-App stopped receiving alarms, thus no more values in xDrip. The sensor starts with 3M.... I talked to Abott-support and they will send me a new sensor, it may just be a defect sensor. The hotline urged me to install a newer version of the app though. Of course I did not tell that I use a patched app.

He said, that the newer versions have a better algorithm making them more correct about the values shown. I suppose, the data being sent to xDrip is raw data anyway? Still, it seems it would be good to have newer versions patched once in a while, if possible...

However: The data in xDrip may be off a little, still the continuous availability of values on the watch is more helpful and getting better long term sugar results, then a "perfectly calculated result" in the app.

Just a heads up, there's a new Freestyle Libre version coming up: Libre 3.

It's very likely that Libre 3 will not be backwards compatible with Libre 2. It'll be necessary to design a new patch once the Android app is out (it's iOS supported only so far).

Does anyone know who designed the original patch? It's probably not @TinoKossmann since he forked it from @szpaku80 and added utilities to simplify applying the patch if I see it correctly. So maybe it was them? Libre 3 will now stream directly to the phone, which alleviates some of the reasons for the patch, however, compatibility with xDrip will probably still require a patch.

If it does realtime data sending to the phone, it's more likely (jopefully) that there "only" has to be an XDrip update. The patched Libre (as I understood) was just to read the sensor.

VOOM108 commented Aug 4, 2021

Since Libre 3 transmits the data every minute to the smartphone and scanning is not necessary any more, in most cases the connection with xdrip seems not necessary any more. (As I understood, the patch is to open the Libre 2 app as a data source for xdrip, while the data goes to the phone every 5 Minutes anyway for the alarms)

There are still things Libre 3 does not do (yet):

  1. It is not able to send data to a smartwatch
  2. There are still only 2 alarms, which I find not sufficient. Esp. getting a repeated alarm if the value stays high or low for a set period of time I find extremely useful.

So I hope there will be a solution with Libre 3, too. Anyway, it is still months until there will even be an Android app.

I'd keep them separate.
Libre 3 is a different beast.
The self protection that hurts is the only comparable thing between Libre Link 2 latest versions and ll3.

As stated several times already, the owner of this repo is not the developer of the patch itself! Also you can just use the libre 2 without the patched app at all: https://www.minimallooper.com/post/how-to-setup-freestyle-libre-2-and-oop2-to-use-a-native-bluetooth-connection-in-xdrip
