Roadmap

The following is a TODO list for updating and adding material to 5E, leading to the v6.0 release.

Another way to contribute is to review any of the new material in the update or master branch, as called out below. Additional pairs of eyes on the tagged versions would also be helpful (see Status for specifics).

  • Chapter 1:
    • Need to identify and link recurring cloudification theme: [Done: Tagged 5.4.]
    • Consider identifying and linking recurring multimedia theme
  • Chapter 2:
    • Need to expand Access Network section (PON, 5G) [Done: Tagged v5.2.]
    • Need to cut BISYNC and 2-d parity [Done: Tagged v5.2.]
  • Chapter 3:
    • Need a major rewrite of the Implementation section [Done: Tagged v5.2.]
    • Need to introduce VXLAN [Done: Tagged v5.4.]
  • Chapter 4:
    • Need to talk about Cloud's impact on Internet structure [Done: Tagged v5.4.]
    • Need to connect the dots for MPLS and DWDM
    • Consider discussing how BGP is used in practice to effect various policies
    • Consider saying more about application-level approaches to mobility
  • Chapter 5
    • Need to add gRPC as an example RPC. [Done: Tagged v5.3.]
  • Chapter 6
    • Need to say more about CUBIC [Done: Tagged v5.3.]
    • Need to add DCTCP and BBR descriptions [Done: Tagged v5.3.]
    • Need to be more explicit about AQM [Done: Tagged v5.3.]
  • Chapter 7
    • Need to add description of Protocol Buffers [Done: Tagged v5.3.]
    • Need to add description of HTTP adaptive streaming [Done: Tagged v5.4.]
  • Chapter 8
    • Need to talk about threats and trust [Done: Tagged v5.4.]
    • Need to add description of decentralized identity management [Done: Tagged v5.4.]
  • Chapter 9
    • Need to add description of HTTP/2. [Done: Tagged v5.3.]
    • Need to relate REST to gRPC and Cloud Services. [Done: Tagged v5.3.]
    • Need to describe more recent management systems [Done: Tagged v5.4.]
    • Consider adding TOR to Overlay section
