I merged then got out of bed to add a backcompat function declaration in 59776f8 , 504c8a5 since the API was public and 9.X follows a strict backwards compatibility model.

(i.e. You should be able to replace the DLL in place without breaking things. Which is useful if you want to share one instance across AssemblyLoadContext(s) for example.)
