Map guide: Everything Else
Most maps can be sorted into one of four categories:
- Pattern map generation - DNA, Beach, etc.
These maps are a twist on normal factorio map generation, with normal gameplay objectives (launch a rocket, build a base).
- Challenge maps - dangerOres, 100x tech cost, bot islands, prehistoric.
These maps still have normal gameplay objectives, but with significant changes that require you to play differently and in some cases engineer unique ways to solve problems.
- Combat heavy - crash site, triangle of terror, toxic jungle.
These maps have a focus on combat and/or base defense, and in many cases are recommended to be played multiplayer. Crashsite is a notable scenario with its capturable, lootable, and upgradeable outposts that provide materials to help survive the biter onslaught.
- Complete overhaul - Diggy.
Currently the only map in this category, Diggy is a complete overhaul of vanilla map generation. You start with only a small area open to you and must dig yourself a base from the walls of your rocky prison while making sure to support the ceiling and avoid collapses.
Alternatively, you can take a look at this alignment chart to find something suiting you or your fellow players.
Resources are not an issue as you march your way through the tech tree, but all science costs are multiplied by 1000.
- There are infinite ores in every direction.
- You have done basic research into how to build a factory. (Automation, Logistics, Military, Turrets)
- The market does not offer what it normally does.
- The biters are plentiful, but seem slow to evolve.
- The sun's position seems unchanging.
- Increased mining speed is enabled, but decreases as the game goes on.

Each ore patch upon its own island must be belted out to a production area or loaded on to trains.
