The system:

  • Supply for every location would start at 100 and would get decreased in regular "ticks" for example every 30 minutes the supply would lower by 20.
  • At specific milestones: 80, 60 40, 20 the "skill" setting for AI in that location would deteriorate by a set amount simulating the morale drop and the lack of ammunition/different needs the locations may have.
  • Every time the milestone passes a certain limit e.g. the skill of the AI in location falls below the preset level the AI commander decides to send in the supply convoy.
  • If the convoy reaches its destination it will resupply the location - each successfully delivered supply truck will raise it by 10 points therefore partial ambushes where 1 vehicle out of 4 still manages to deliver are allowed as well and instantly restores the skill setting to the new milestones level.
  • the supply would only be simulated in the influence "bubble" around the HQ - this is already used for mission generation for example.
  • the supply levels of locations and convoy paths can be randomly found out via the AS default INTEL mechanics - interrogation and location takeovers.
  • the supply trucks also contain random assortment of weapons, ammo and equipment when searched by the player to encourage the capturing during ambushes.

Some more brainstorming:

  • the supplies are primarily manufactured in factories around the map and the supply flow can not only be disrupted by stopping the convoys but also by destruction/takeover of nearby factories?
  • if the manufactured supplies are not available to the AI commander he can opt to purchase them offshore by spending his money to keep his troops supplied?
  • supplies purchased this way would need to be delivered on planes only to strategic airfields and further redistributed?
  • maybe make the troops in locations with low level of supply not only unskilled but under-equipped as well? less ammo, sometimes no weapons equipped etc.?
  • make the troops surrender with the default AS surrender mechanic far more often/easily if under-supplied
  • different minimum supply limits for different locations to send the convoys out to with some strategic ones taking over the less strategic when AI commander decides to run as supply convoy?
