Meeting Minutes

TAG administrative stuff (recap/refresh)

  • Rosie: Discussed how our meetings are open but the group, email, and google drive are closed.
  • Luke: raised that we would need to be careful if we bring up any critical security issue that can't be made public right away. Rosie purposed that we do an ad-hoc closed meeting in these scenarios and Luke agreed.
  • Luke: added bookmark for tag meeting to slack channel to help folks find it.
  • Rosie: Rosie pointed out that the host key and conference information is pinned in the slack channel if folks need it to chair etc.

Matomo

  • Rosie/Willow: brought up the item from the tech call regarding Matomo.
  • Luke: clarified it was about supporting the installation of the actual Matomo server itself vs just the software. Mentioned that Matomo cloud and other options are available that don't require the setup of an actual server.
  • Rosie: Is going to look into deprecating support for Matomo cloud to see if it is desirable/feasible and have this discussion again next TAG meeting. If we are to proceed we would likely announce a date when we would stop supporting our own installation of the Matomo server and provide direction on where to find instructions on where to do this such as Matomo cloud etc.
  • Don: mentioned that Matomo seems to have its own docker image which possibly could be included as part of ISLE. Mentioned that if we deprecate/remote that we still should provide a reference to how we used to set it up in the documentation.
  • Willow: Raised https://github.com/asulibraries/islandora_matomo which would be a really good module to have in the community. Willow would commit to maintaining this module. Group agreed we should look at bringing this into the Islandora org.
  • Don: Raised that we should not fork but see if ASU can agree to transfer ownership of the module to Islandora. This would avoid confusion and complications of a fork.
  • Willow: Will start a discussion with Seth regarding the islandora_matomo module. We will discuss this further next TAG meeting.
  • Amy: raised that we should have a session in the next IslandoraCon on Matomo/Google Analytics. Discussed the importance of tracking for repository managers since they can use that information to help with funding. She will bring it up with Kirsta.
  • Don: brought up the Matomo tag manager which can be used as a possible alternative for Matomo tracking. https://matomo.org/guide/tag-manager/ https://matomo.org/guide/tag-manager/getting-started-with-tag-manager/

General DevOps

  • Luke: raised that we should consider having separate meetings for Islandora software and Islandora DevOps/ISLE vs the one Tech call. Discussed that some developers only want to contribute to the software side of the discussion but not necessarily ISLE.
  • Amy: We could try separate calls to see how it works.
  • Rosie: Suggested that we spend the first part of the call on the software side followed by the DevOps allowing devs to drop if they don't have anything to contribute to DevOps/ISLE. Luke agreed.
  • Luke: (following on the Matomo server installation discussion) questioned if the foundation should be supporting DevOps provisioning in general vs just providing manual installation instructions as a source of truth. Pointed out various ways to install stack Ansible Playbook, ISLE, Puppet etc.
  • Rosie: Mentioned that some provisioning could be moved out of Islandora proper. Roblib could possibly take over the playbook.

Action Items

  • Further discussion on support for installation of Matomo server. Rosie wanted to look into this further.
  • Work with Seth to see if Islandora can take over islandora_matomo module. Willow is going to bring this up in the channel.
  • Have a session on Matomo/Google Analytics at IslandoraCon (or perhaps the camp?). Amy will bring this up with Kirsta.
  • Rosie will reorganize tech call so that software discussion happens before ISLE/Devops.
  • Follow up discussions next meeting on Matomo server installation support and islandora_matomo module.
