• a strike waits for next score to be tallied
• a spare waits for next score to be tallied
• after a strike the next two rolls are added
• after a spare the next one roll is added
• can score a gutter game
• two stikes in a row
• two spares in a row
• can score a perfect game (300)
• can play a full game with strikes and spares
