The contourmerge plugin provides an editing mode to merge (or align) two contours on an OSM map, i.e.

• a section of a lake outline and a section of a neighboring area representing a forest
• a section of a coastline and a section of a residential area
• two border sections

Install

• Download JOSM
• Select Edit -> Preferences ...
• Select the Plugins tab
• Download the list of available plugins
• Search the plugin contourmerge
• Check it, click OK in the preferences dialog and restart JOSM
