Actions

Here is a list of Actions that can be executed in the game. They can be categorized as follows:

Unit Actions

  • Dash: move (optional) + attack (optional)

    • Units: warrior, rider, archer, swordsman, boat, ship and battleship.
  • Escape: move (optional) + attack (optional) + move (optional, if attack happened and this unit is alive)

    • Units: rider.
  • Persist: move (optional) + attack (optional) [+ attack (optional, while alive)]

    • Units: knight.
  • Move only: move

    • Units: mind bender
  • Convert: convert

    • Units: mind bender
  • Upgrade boat to ship: move (optional) + attack (optional) + upgrade (optional, for 5 stars) + upgrade to battleship (optional, for 15 stars)

    • Units: boat
  • Upgrade ship to battleship: move (optional) + attack (optional) + upgrade (optional, for 15 stars)

    • Units: ship
  • Heal Others: heals all friendly units in a range radius of 1

    • Units: mind bender
  • Capture: capture (starting in city or village)

    • Units: all
  • Recover: actively, or passively (if no actions done that turn), heals the unit

    • Units: all
  • Disband: removes a unit for half its prize (giant: 5 stars)

    • Units: all
  • Examine: exploits ruins (starting in ruins)

Special Ad-hoc Actions

  • Upgrade (Make Veteran): converts unit in Veteran when killing 3 units
    • Units: all
    • Notes: this action is always available when 3 units have been killed. It doesn't stop any other action.

City Actions

All these actions are allowed if the enabling technology has been researched and there are enough stars to spend. Adjacency is assumed as up, down, left, right and diagonals. Cost indicated in (parenthesis). If no cost indicated, the action is free.

Resource Actions

  • Fishing
    • On tile with fish resource
    • +1 population
  • Gathering
    • On tile with fruit resource
    • +1 population
  • Hunting
    • On a tile with animal resource
    • +1 population
  • Whaling
    • On tile with whales resource
    • +10 instant stars
  • Clear forest
    • On a tile with a forest, which is transformed into a field
    • Animal resources get destroyed.
    • +2 instant stars

Transform Actions

  • Burn forest (5 stars)
    • Transforms a forest (with no building) into a tile with crops.
  • Grow Forest (5 stars)
    • On a free field (may have resources, but no buildings).
    • Transforms empty field into a forest.
  • Destroy:
    • Removes any building from the city.

Build Actions

  • Build port (10 stars)
    • On a shallow water tile
    • +2 population
  • Build mine (5 stars)
    • On a mountain with ore tile
    • +2 population
  • Build forge (5 stars)
    • On field tiles (may have resources, but no buildings. Next to mines.)
    • +2 population per adjacent mine.
    • If build next to enemy mines, reduces city population (investigate?)
  • Build Farm (5 stars)
    • On a tile with crop
    • +2 population
  • Build Windmill (5 stars)
    • On field tiles (may have resources, but no buildings. Next to farms.)
    • Only one windmill allowed per city
    • +1 population per adjacent farm.
  • Build road (2 stars)
    • On any tile that is not mountain or water tile.
    • Can't be destroyed.
    • Can be build outside city limits
  • Build custom house (5 stars)
    • On field tiles (may have resources, but no buildings. Next to ports.)
    • +2 stars per nearby port
    • Only one custom house per city
  • Build Lumber Hut (2 stars)
    • On a tile with a forest
    • +1 population
  • Build sawmill (5 stars)
    • On field tiles (may have resources, but no buildings. Next to a lumber hut.)
    • +1 population per nearby lumber hut.
    • Only one sawmill per city
  • Build temple. All give 100 points of score (growing with turns) and +1 population. Destroys resources. Types:
    • Temple (20 stars): On any free tile (with no building).
    • Water temple (20 stars): On any water tile (with no port).
    • Mountain temple (20 stars): On any mountain tile (with no mine).
    • Forest temple (15 stars): On any free forest (with no lumber hut).
  • Spawn Unit: Cannot have another unit in the city tile.
    • Warrior (2 stars)
    • Rider (3 stars)
    • Defender (3 stars)
    • Swordsman (4 stars)
    • Archer (3 stars)
    • Catapult (8 stars)
    • Knight (8 stars)
    • Mind Bender (5 stars)

Special Ad-hoc Actions

  • City Level up: levels a city up

    • Units: cities
    • Notes: prompts the player with a choice between two upgrades. See https://polytopia.fandom.com/wiki/Cities
      • Level 2: Workshop or Explorer
      • Level 3: City wall or resources
      • Level 4: Population growth or park
      • Level 5+: park or giant unit
  • Build monuments: a monument can be build once per game upon the completion of certain tasks after the appropriate technology has been researched.

    • They can be build in shallow waters and field tiles (without buildings or forest)
    • +3 population, 400 score points.
    • Altar of Peace task: not attacking an enemy for 5 turns after "Meditation" has been researched (included).
    • Emperor's tomb task: gather 100 resources accumulated at once.
    • Eye of God task: all board tiles are visible.
    • Gate of power task: kill 10 units from other tribes.
    • Grand Bazar task: the capital has at least 5 trade routes to other cities.
    • Park of Fortune task: when the first city is upgraded to level 5.
    • Tower of wisdom: when all technologies have been researched.
